About Hadizat E. Kadir

I am a research assistant, and the lab manager at the CTIDR. I hold a bachelor's degree in biochemistry and a master's in public health nutrition and policy from Bayero University Kano.

My research interests lie at the intersection of molecular epidemiology, climate change and public health. I have a hands-on experience in molecular laboratory techniques, including DNA extraction, conventional PCR-based assays, SNP and TaqMan genotyping, qRT-PCR and biochemical assays. Also, I am very well grounded on handling mosquitoes in insectary and testing for insecticides resistance. Also, I have worked on other projects including assessing the impact of temperatures on the fitness of malaria vectors. However, I have a passion for human nutrition and my master’s dissertation focused on the interaction between genetics and diet in relation to disease susceptibility, particularly type 2 diabetes.

In my capacity as the lab manager, my day to day activities include supporting M.Sc and Ph.D students in conducting various molecular activities associated with their projects - troubleshooting problems and arriving at solutions. These challenges are exciting and seeing the happiness in the faces of the students and my colleagues when problems get resolved successfully, is fulfilling.
