About Luther Agobil
Luther Agobil is a seasoned finance and grants management professional with over 13 years of experience in humanitarian, development, health, and research-focused organizations across Nigeria and Africa. He is an Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) with extensive expertise in donor compliance, financial reporting, budgeting, grants management, audit coordination, and organizational financial leadership.
Throughout his career, Luther has successfully managed multi-million-dollar donor-funded projects supported by international agencies and institutions including USAID/BHA, ECHO, DFID, EU, OFDA, Global Fund, ECW, NMFA, and other bilateral and multilateral donors. His experience spans financial management for emergency response, health systems strengthening, infectious disease research, malaria elimination, livelihoods, education, and gender-focused programs.
Luther currently serves as Senior Grant and Finance Officer at Centrum for Tropical and Infectious Disease Research (CTIDR), where he oversees grant management, donor compliance, budgeting, financial reporting, audit support, and financial controls for donor-funded projects. He also serves as Finance Manager Consultant at International Foundation Against Infectious Diseases in Nigeria (IFAIN), supporting strategic financial planning, donor reporting, treasury management, and institutional financial systems strengthening.
Prior to these roles, he held several progressive finance and compliance leadership positions at Mercy Corps, where he managed regional and country-level financial operations across Nigeria and other African countries. His responsibilities included donor financial reporting, subaward management, budget monitoring, award reconciliations, cash flow management, and partner capacity strengthening. He also worked with Famkris HealthCare Initiative and Inter-Gender Development Centre, contributing significantly to donor compliance, grant accountability, and project financial oversight.
Luther is recognized for his strong analytical skills, integrity, leadership, and ability to build effective financial systems that enhance accountability and program impact. He possesses extensive experience mentoring finance teams and supporting local partner organizations through capacity-building initiatives and financial management coaching.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Benue State University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting from Gombe State University, and is currently pursuing an MBA at Ahmadu Bello University. He is also certified in Project Management for Development (PMD Pro).
Beyond his professional commitments, Luther enjoys playing chess, mentoring young professionals, and travelling.
