About Dr Abdullahi Muhammad
Dr Abdullahi Muhammad is an early career researcher with interest in field entomology and insecticide resistance in major African malaria vectors. Armed with a bachelor's and a master's degree in Biochemistry and Biotechnology from Bayero University, Kano and Universiti Putra Malaysia, respectively, Abdullahi started his research career as a PhD student at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) in 2018. During the PhD and early postdoc years, Abdullahi has published several peer-reviewed articles in various prestigious journals. Abdullahi has acquired skills ranging from field entomology, working with mosquitoes in insectary, insecticide resistance phenotyping, transcriptomics and functional genomics (heterologous expression and characterization of candidate resistant genes/enzymes, the use of UAS-Gal4 systems in transgenesis and functional validations, RNAi techniques), etc.
Dr Muhammad’s PhD was supported by the Nigeria’s PTDF overseas scholarship, and Research Infrastructure for the control of vector-borne diseases: Infravec2, supported by Horizon 2020 Pan-African Mosquito Control Association (PAMCA) travel/training awards, as well as the Beacon Investment Fund Grant at the LSTM.
Current research Interest and affiliations
