About Dr Amen N. Fadel

Professional Summary

Dr Fadel is a parasitologist, medical entomologist, and a researcher with expertise in cellular and molecular parasitology, malaria vector biology and insecticide resistance. He graduated with a PhD from University of Buea, Cameroon, where he worked on the molecular mechanisms of insecticides resistance in the mosquitoes from the Sahel and Savannah of Chad and Cameroon, with sponsorship through Prof. Sulaiman S. Ibrahims’ Wellcome Trust Training Fellowship (2016-2019). He now works as an academic staff in  the Adam Barka University of Abéché, Chad, where he coordinate sthe Master’s program in Biology. Also, he collaborates with the National Malaria Control of Chad as a field medical entomologist.

His expertise spans field and molecular entomology, and public health practice to generate actionable data for malaria control and elimination in Chad. His research has been pivotal in understanding the molecular mechanisms driving insecticide resistance in malaria vectors, particularly the Anopheles species. His publications highlight the molecular drivers of insecticide resistance in Sahelo-Sudanian populations of Anopheles coluzzii, showcasing my commitment to addressing the challenges posed by malaria transmission in endemic regions.

Core expertise

·         Medical entomology & Vector surveillance: Field collection, species identification, insecticide resistance bioassays, and entomological monitoring.

·         Academic coordination & Teaching: Lead the Master’s program in Biology, develop curriculum, supervise graduate research projects.

·         Molecular Parasitology: PCR, qPCR, genotyping, and molecular diagnostics for malaria vectors and parasites.

·         Insecticide Resistance Research: Phenotypic and genotypic analysis of resistance mechanisms in Anopheles gambiae s.l.

·         Research Collaboration: Co-author peer-reviewed studies with national and international research teams.

·         Capacity Building: Building local research capacity, and training scientists to address vector-borne disease challenges, in Chad, and across Africa through his position at the CTIDR.
