About Nneka O. Agashi

I am an entomologist with interests in Aedes mosquitoes and Aedes-borne diseases, Anopheles mosquitoes and malaria, insecticide resistance, and other neglected tropical diseases.

I obtained my BSc (Biological Sciences) from Anambra State University, Uli and my MSc in Public Health Entomology and Parasitology from Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UniZik), Awka, Nigeria.

Since 2013 I have been working as a scientific officer (research entomologist in the National Arbovirus and Vectors Research Centre (NAVRC), Enugu, Nigeria. My key responsibilities include:

  • Entomological surveillance and vector bioassays.
  • Train personnel in field and laboratory entomology techniques.
  • Manage insectary operations and mosquito colonies.
  • Coordinate entomology laboratory activities and supervise technicians.

Currently, I am a PhD student in UniZik, under the supervision of Prof. Edith Nwanko and Prof. Sulaiman S. Ibrahim of the CTIDR. My PhD project is seeking to compare the bionomics of Aedes mosquitoes in (i) the derived savannah/rainforest in southern Nigeria, (ii) Guinea savannah in northern Nigeria, and (iii) Sudan savannah in northern Nigeria. In addition, I am also investigating the thermal resilience of Aedes mosquitoes from the above three contrasting ecological settings, using static assays with circulating water baths and other facilities present in the CTIDR.
