Nneka O. Agashi

I am an entomologist with interests in Aedes mosquitoes and Aedes-borne diseases, Anopheles mosquitoes and malaria, insecticide resistance, and other neglected tropical diseases.

I obtained my BSc (Biological Sciences) from Anambra State University, Uli and my MSc in Public Health Entomology and Parasitology from Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UniZik), Awka, Nigeria.

Since 2013 I have been working as a scientific officer (research entomologist in the National Arbovirus and Vectors Research Centre (NAVRC), Enugu, Nigeria. My key responsibilities include:

• Entomological surveillance and vector bioassays.
• Train personnel in field and laboratory entomology techniques.
• Manage insectary operations and mosquito colonies.
• Coordinate entomology laboratory activities and supervise technicians.

Currently, I am a PhD student in UniZik, under the supervision of Prof. Edith Nwanko and Prof. Sulaiman S. Ibrahim of the CTID^R. My PhD project is seeking to compare the bionomics of Aedes mosquitoes in (i) the derived savannah/rainforest in southern Nigeria, (ii) Guinea savannah in northern Nigeria, and (iii) Sudan savannah in northern Nigeria. In addition, I am also investigating the thermal resilience of Aedes mosquitoes from the above three contrasting ecological settings, using static assays with circulating water baths and other facilities present in the CTID^R.
