About Ibrahim M. Shanono
My name is Ibrahim Shanono, and I currently work in the department of Biological Sciences at the Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies (KASCEPS). I obtained my first and second degrees in Biochemistry from Bayero University Kano, where I am enrolled as a PhD student.
My PhD activities are very exciting as I just began a journey into the world of ticks and acarology. I have discovered the role of these important vectors in public and animal health, and how we can fight them off through research of translational importance.
I am trying to establish the seasonal (dry and rainy season) variations in hard ticks infesting cattle and camel in northern Nigeria. My primary aims include identification of the ticks to molecular levels using a combination of morphological and molecular approaches, while at the same time detecting the pathogens of one-health importance they transmit. I will also establish acaricide resistance profiles of the ticks and investigate its molecular basis.
